Once when I was fishing with my dad he called me over to where he was. The water had been really high and when it receded it left polls with no water running in or out. He had found one of these that was full of 12 inch rainbows. The bank was steep. He told me that they couldn't see us because of the angle and the lighting. What he wanted to show me has changed my fishing ever since.
He explained that the fish to our left had gotten off his hook and I should watch that fish. Then he cast to a fish about 100 feet away from the one I was watching. The fish I was watching swam across the pool at full speed. He rammed a fish that was headed to my dads fly.
Since then when I'm fishing in stealth mod and I find a hot spot. Then a fish gets away and the fishing stops. I will change flies or move on. It amazes me how often changing flies revives the fishing.
The next time your fishing stops abruptly when you hook a fish and he slips off the hook try changing the fly. Let me know what happens.
